Chris Avellone Has Joined Republic Games!

The legendary writer and designer will work on a dark fantasy RPG for Adam Williams’s team, founded by the former Quantic Dream writer, at the end of 2024.

The project sounds like the perfect fit for Chris Avellone: a dark, mature fantasy RPG. According to the press release, players’ choices will have a significant impact on the story, shaping the fate of their character and the world around them. The game will feature multiple endings. Avellone has an impressive track record, having worked on Fallout 2, Planescape: Torment, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II – The Sith Lords, Neverwinter Nights 2, Alpha Protocol, Fallout: New Vegas, Wasteland 2, Pillars of Eternity, Tyranny, Torment: Tides of Numenera, Prey, Divinity: Original Sin II, Pathfinder: Kingmaker, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Wasteland 3, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, Weird West, and Alaloth: Champions of the Four Kingdoms.

“Chris has written, created, and designed some of the greatest RPGs of all time. He’s a master of interactive storytelling. He was at the top of our list of people to work with. He was at the forefront of the golden age of RPGs. We’re creating a dark fantasy story with immersive gameplay and a rich, interactive narrative that aims to recapture that magic and take it to the next level. Everyone at the studio is excited – we’re building a dream team.”Williams tweeted.

“When Adam shared his vision and design for his upcoming title, I asked if I could collaborate, and he was more than happy to bring me on board. I love the design principles he’s laid out, and even better, I love the narrative structure he’s built into it. Being involved from such an early stage is pretty amazing – it’s a rare opportunity in this industry.” – added Avellone.

In June 2020, Avellone was accused of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior by two women. As a result, Techland, Gato Salvaje, and Paradox Interactive severed ties with him. At the time, he was working on Dying Light 2: Stay Human, The Waylanders, and Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 (before Paradox moved development from Hardsuit Labs to The Chinese Room).

A year later, Avellone published a lengthy rebuttal on Medium and filed a defamation lawsuit in a California court. The case ended two years ago when the two women retracted their claims and paid Avellone a seven-figure settlement.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
