MOVIE NEWS – The first trailer for The Running Man remake has dropped, starring Glen Powell in a tense, high-octane adaptation of Stephen King’s cult classic. Hitting theaters on November 7, this Edgar Wright-directed reimagining delivers all the intensity and spectacle expected from a survival show where Powell’s Ben Richards must outwit millions of viewers—and professional hunters—just to stay alive.
Millions hunt. One runs. Everyone’s watching. Edgar Wright’s new take on Stephen King’s The Running Man has finally unveiled its first official trailer, and it looks like an adrenaline rush from start to finish. Glen Powell (Twisters, Top Gun: Maverick) leads a cast including Colman Domingo, Michael Cera, Katy O’Brian, Josh Brolin, and Lee Pace. The remake, based on King’s 1982 novel (published under the Richard Bachman pseudonym), plunges us into a dystopian future where a deadly reality show has taken over television—and public obsession.
Unlike the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger film, Wright’s adaptation focuses on the raw terror and twisted thrill of the televised hunt. Powell’s Ben Richards is a working-class man forced into the competition to save his ailing daughter, while the show’s slick, ruthless producer (Brolin) manipulates him for ratings. But Richards’ defiance quickly turns him into a fan favorite—and a real threat to the system itself. As the game escalates, Richards must survive both the professional Hunters and a bloodthirsty national audience, with every move broadcast live and the stakes climbing higher every day.
This year is a goldmine for Stephen King fans: 2025 has already brought Osgood Perkins’ The Monkey to screens, while Mike Flanagan’s The Life of Chuck is headed for streaming. HBO Max is gearing up for It: Welcome to Derry, and new adaptations of Carrie and The Dark Tower are in the works (the latter from Flanagan himself). Meanwhile, Doug Liman is tackling a new version of The Stand for Netflix, and Darren Aronofsky is rumored to direct a remake of Cujo. If you’re a King fan, this year’s slate has you covered.
