MOVIE NEWS – Every Superman actor has their own legion of devoted fans, but few inspire the kind of loyalty that Henry Cavill commands. The British star played Clark Kent in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel and returned for several other DCEU films after his solo debut.
Snyder’s faithful are still holding out hope for Henry Cavill to return as Superman, but with David Corenswet now officially taking on the cape in James Gunn’s new Superman movie, that dream seems further away than ever. As the film’s July 11 release approaches, Cavill fans are only getting louder—especially with no news of a Man of Steel 2 and the reality of a new Man of Tomorrow. The real shock? Cavill’s own reaction to his successor might just take everyone by surprise…
David Corenswet revealed to Beat 102 that several former Supermen have already reached out to show their support before the big premiere. “I’ve had the pleasure of exchanging letters with two previous Supermen,” he explained. Both Cavill and Tyler Hoechlin—who played Clark Kent in the CW’s DC universe—shared the same “non-advice” with him:
“Both of them, interestingly, sort of said in their own words, ‘I’m not gonna try to give you any tips.’ And I think that’s a very Superman thing. Superman’s not so much for giving advice or dictating how other people should be. They really just conveyed to me an encouragement and a sense of… have fun with it.”
Both Cavill’s and Hoechlin’s takes on Superman have become cult favorites. Man of Steel was divisive, but Cavill’s casting is nearly universally praised. Hoechlin, meanwhile, earned his own loyal following through the CW’s Superman & Lois, which wrapped up last December.
Superman Returns to Theaters This Summer
With Superman about to hit cinemas, the only real resistance comes from Snyder die-hards. Marketing for the new movie has doubled down on Superman’s optimism and humanity, giving the character a fresh, three-dimensional portrayal that’s been missing from some past versions.
David Corenswet leads the cast as Superman, joined by Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. The film is written and directed by James Gunn, co-head of DC Studios with Peter Safran. Superman releases worldwide on July 11.
