Wargaming Group Limited (WGL), known for World of Tanks, tried to release a new game, but it was met with less success than expected.
WGL announced that Steel Hunters will shut down on October 8, 2025. This officially adds the game to the list of free-to-play titles that were unable to survive until their one-year anniversary. In this case, Steel Hunters couldn’t even escape early access. Steel Hunters was announced at last year’s The Game Awards. At the time, Wargaming CEO Victor Kislyi said it was a huge moment for the company. With Steel Hunters, they were pushing the boundaries and creating something completely new. Their goal was to create one of the most exciting and compelling mech experiences of all time. The game’s shutdown date means it won’t even have been a year since its unveiling. Check out the WGL announcement on Steam:
“Today, we have some difficult news. We’ve made the decision to sunset Steel Hunters. You’ve given us so much passion and support, but unfortunately, we’ve come to the conclusion that continuing development is not sustainable. We know this isn’t the news anyone wanted to hear, and we genuinely share in your disappointment. Let’s make these final months special together!
We want you to enjoy Steel Hunters to the fullest until the very end, so we’ll keep the game servers running for three months from today. Expect them to shut down around October 8. In the coming weeks, we’ll roll out custom game support so you can play with friends, set up community matches, and make some final memories. As a thank you for your dedication, we’re unlocking every Hunter for all players in the new game mode, including ones that have never been seen before. Try them out, explore, and have fun! We’re also planning a goodbye tournament to celebrate your love of competition and the amazing community you’ve built. More details will be available soon on Discord.
We are immensely grateful for your time, feedback, memes, and the countless memorable battles we’ve shared. From the very first days of the Alpha, you have shaped Steel Hunters with your energy, creativity, and dedication, and we are honored to have had you on this journey. We couldn’t have asked for a better community, and we’ll miss you dearly. Thank you, Hunters, for everything,” wrote WGL.
There are too many seals, too few players, and even less time.
