TECH NEWS – Is Linda Yaccarino stepping down because of some Nazi statements on Twitter’s chatbot?
Yaccarino’s sudden resignation is suspicious because it could be linked to her proximity to a critical event. Earlier this year, Elon Musk‘s xAI formally bought Twitter in an all-stock deal that valued his AI-focused company at $80 billion and his social media platform at $33 billion, including $12 billion in liabilities. The timing of Yaccarino’s departure is rather suspicious, as it comes after the imminent release of Grok 4.
“After two incredible years, I’ve decided to step down as CEO. When Elon Musk and I first spoke about his vision, I knew it would be the opportunity of a lifetime to carry out this company’s extraordinary mission. I’m immensely grateful to him for entrusting me with the responsibility of protecting free speech, turning the company around, and transforming Twitter into the Everything App. I’m incredibly proud of the team — the historic business turnaround we have accomplished together has been nothing short of remarkable.
We started with the critical early work necessary to prioritize the safety of our users, especially children, and to restore advertiser confidence. This team has worked tirelessly, from pioneering innovations like Community Notes to the imminent launch of Twitter Money, and from bringing the most iconic voices and content to the platform. The best is yet to come as Twitter enters a new chapter with xAI. Twitter is a digital town square for all voices and the world’s most powerful cultural indicator. We couldn’t have achieved this without the support of our users, business partners, and the world’s most innovative team. I’ll be cheering you all on as you continue to change the world,” Yaccarino wrote.

Remember that xAI’s customized large language model (LLM) recently caused a scandal when it began praising Adolf Hitler and referring to itself as “MechaHitler.” Twitter subsequently deleted several anti-Semitic posts from Grok. At least Yaccarino turned Twitter’s finances around. For example, Twitter is on track for its first year of revenue growth since Elon Musk took over the social media platform in 2022. Twitter’s advertising revenue in the US is expected to grow 17.5% to $1.31 billion in 2025.
For context, note that Twitter reported revenues of $4.51 billion in 2021, its last full year as a publicly traded company. Immediately after taking over, Musk ruthlessly cut costs at Twitter, gradually making the platform financially viable despite the lower top-line number. A few hours ago, Grok 4 LLM was released and is expected to be available in two versions: a generalist model that can handle user queries, reasoning tasks, research, translation, and other authoring tasks and a coding-focused version that integrates coding tools like Cursor.
