Despite the launch of a petition for Hungarian subtitles, neither Sony nor Kojima Productions has indicated any chance of official Hungarian language support in Death Stranding 2. The small size of the Hungarian market, the costs of localization, and low sales all hamper local fans’ chances, and currently, Sony is not communicating about Hungarian subtitles or support.
In recent days, Hungarian gamers have petitioned Sony and Kojima Productions to include official Hungarian subtitles in Death Stranding 2. While a community translation existed for the first game, the absence of an official localization remains a disappointment for many, especially in such a story-driven title, where understanding dialogue and nuanced text is crucial.
According to petition organizer Roman Cseh: “A localized subtitle would be a huge help for the Hungarian community. Not only would it enhance the enjoyment of the game, but it would also strengthen trust and loyalty toward Sony and Kojima Productions in our region.” Although this request has been recurring since the game’s announcement, there has not been any official Sony statement on the inclusion or lack of Hungarian subtitles—no regrets or concrete promises.
In three days, just over 220 people have signed the petition, which alone demonstrates the modest size of the Hungarian market. There is no official information regarding the expected localization of Death Stranding 2, and it now appears that Sony Hungary is releasing more and more titles without Hungarian subtitles and with minimal local marketing: street ads have completely disappeared, and even online ads are rare. The question remains open: will PlayStation exclusives ever get official Hungarian subtitles, or will we be left with fan translations? Of course, those are only available as mods for PC—and for Death Stranding 2, even that will take time…
