Creative Assembly admitted that Tides of Torment was not of sufficient quality, so they delayed its release.
The studio has pushed back the release of the Tides of Torment DLC for Total War: Warhammer 3 from summer to an unspecified date later this year. In a blog post on the company’s website, community manager Adam Freeman explained that the expansion is being delayed because it does not currently meet the studio’s quality standards. “In recent playtesting, we asked ourselves if this next DLC met the standards we’ve set for recent releases. The short answer was no. However, we know it can, so we want to spend more time working on it, reviewing the content, and improving the gameplay experience it’s set to bring,” Freeman wrote.
In March, CA revealed that Tides of Torment would introduce Dechala, the serpent-like legendary lord of the Slaanesh faction. In May, CA revealed more details, including a new Norscan faction led by a wizard named Sayl the Faithless. CA had planned to share more news about these two factions soon. However, due to the DLC’s delay, Creative Assembly will likely postpone the upcoming What’s Next video, which was set to focus specifically on Slaanesh and Norsca. Freeman also apologized for 2025 being a slower year for the Warhammer community.
This year, CA seems to have focused on refining existing elements of Total War: Warhammer 3 rather than introducing new features. In March, the studio overhauled the underperforming Kislev faction to improve the gameplay, and last month, they completely retooled the magic item system. Freeman pointed out that more updates like these will be coming in the months ahead. In July, trial items will receive siege upgrades, and in August, CA will add long-awaited quality-of-life improvements to Tomb Kings and Lizardmen gameplay. They will also refresh orc and goblin character skills.
Meanwhile, September is reserved for minor hotfixes, so CA will turn its full attention to Tides of Torment. Freeman says it will arrive with a significant update sometime between October and December.
