A Ubisoft Exec Hinted at Two Long-Awaited Remakes, But Can We Really Expect Them?

It’s possible that Ubisoft’s chief financial officer brought up the two remakes just to annoy the fans.

After all, it’s been five years since the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake first leaked on the Russian Uplay Store. The story is essentially a repeat of Skull and Bones: multiple delays, studio changes, reboots, more delays, more studios, and, most recently, a social media mishap that sparked a promise from Ubisoft that they are indeed still working on the game. Four years have passed since Ubisoft announced a Splinter Cell remake, which has made even less progress. Ubisoft celebrated ten years of Splinter Cell fan trolling by altering Sam Fisher’s image.

Both games were discussed in the Q&A section of Ubisoft’s recent annual general meeting (AGM). Nothing concrete was announced about either game (not really the purpose of an AGM). In response to a question about Tencent’s investment in Ubisoft and the new spin-off unit that the two companies are about to launch, CFO Frédéric Duguet explained how the money will be split. Some of the money will come back to Ubisoft to be used for the selective development of other franchises and to boost their live service games.

Duguet said that there are some iconic franchises in their catalog that they can activate or reactivate with a small investment. This applies to the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, which he said will be released very soon, as well as to Splinter Cell in the future. The release date for the Sands of Time remake is fiscal year 2026, ending March 31, 2026. That’s not exactly soon. It’s more likely that the French publisher is planning for the end of 2025.

However, the Splinter Cell remake still seems to be in development limbo, so it’s unclear why Duguet brought it up.
