Stop Killing Games matters more than ever: the online services for a major racing simulator have been switched off without any prior notice. On the Japanese PlayStation Store, Assetto Corsa now displays: “Online service for this game has ended.”
If you’ve been following gaming news lately, you’ve probably come across the Stop Killing Games initiative. This campaign fights for game preservation and the right of players to enjoy their games—including online features—even after studios decide to pull the plug on servers. With only days left to sign its petition, the project has gone viral again following the sudden disappearance of Assetto Corsa’s multiplayer.
Assetto Corsa’s Online Multiplayer Silenced Overnight
As reported by Delisted Games, Assetto Corsa’s online services were terminated abruptly and without warning. News broke via the PSN Profiles community, where players began noticing last Friday that multiplayer on the PlayStation 4 version had become inaccessible. The lack of official communication frustrated fans as more and more reported that they could no longer join online races, confirming the end of multiplayer support.
The only official word comes from the Assetto Corsa page on the Japanese PlayStation Store: “Online service for this game has ended. Please note that content that uses network functions is not currently available.” This warning has yet to appear on the Store pages for other regions.
For trophy hunters, the shutdown means that at least one trophy is now impossible to obtain. The upside is that most of Assetto Corsa’s content—tracks, cars, and modes—remains fully accessible offline, no internet required.
