Helldivers 2 Won’t Fade Away Anytime Soon – The Studio Reveals Why a Sequel Is Still Years Off

Helldivers 2 isn’t going anywhere soon: Arrowhead’s devs have made it clear that Helldivers 3 is still a long way off, and the current game will keep going strong. “We expect Helldivers 3 to be many years away. Helldivers 2 can continue as long as people are playing it,” the studio stated.

Helldivers 2 has become a genuine phenomenon in the gaming world, standing out as Sony’s one true live-service success. The frantic, co-op-driven action and constant updates have kept millions fighting in the Great Galactic War and built a fiercely dedicated community around the game.

Don’t Expect Helldivers 3 for a While

If anyone’s worried about Helldivers 2 losing support soon, there’s no need: Arrowhead Game Studios isn’t planning a sequel for a long time. CEO Shams Jorjani confirmed on Discord, “Helldivers 3 is many years away,” adding that the team is “focused on the present and the long-term future.” This was announced during the second year of the game, so a follow-up is not on the horizon.

Jorjani also replied to a fan on Discord, expressing full faith in the vision of the game’s leads—Mike, Felix, Niklas, Marre, and Johan—and said, “It’s great to be part of this journey.” This matches comments from creative director Johan Pilestedt late last year, who noted, “We’re building Helldivers 2 into Helldivers 3,” meaning there’s years of expansion and support planned for the current title.

The Future Belongs to Helldivers 2

Fears about official support ending, especially after the Stop Killing Games movement, are unfounded. Community manager Catherine Baskin stated, “Helldivers 2 can keep running as long as people play it.” Arrowhead is working on a new project, but all their resources are focused on Helldivers 2 right now. Notably, Sony won’t be involved in publishing their next game, so the studio will fully self-fund the development.
