Due to an interesting bug, many pregnancies occurred, seemingly triggered by something we didn’t think could cause it.
The baby boom is over. Electronic Arts fixed a bizarre bug in The Sims 4 that falsely marked Sims as pregnant, regardless of their gender or whether they had previously “woo-hooed.” The bug appeared last week, slipping into the game unnoticed with a base game patch coinciding with the release of the new Enchanted by Nature DLC.
The bug randomly identified Sims as pregnant while corrupting everything related to pregnancy. Baby bumps flattened, pregnancy tests disappeared from shelves, and phantom pregnancies never resulted in Sim babies. The bug also had a number of other side effects related to the game’s reproductive cycle. It prevented wrongly impregnated Sims from aging and from ever “woo-hooing” again.
“Today’s update will fix the recent issues seen with Sim Pregnancy introduced on July 1. The issues were related to performance optimizations and have now been reverted to resolve the issues reported. Any Sim pregnancy related mods should return to their pre-update functionality, though you should still check with the specific mod author for updates,” Electronic Arts announced on its website.
Yes, they were trying to improve performance by interfering with pregnancy. It’s deadly, and it’s also somewhat interesting that The Sims 4 has pregnancy mods. Anyway, the Sims now have to get pregnant as usual. As much as it’s normal for them to have a baby with the Grim Reaper. As for the wider reception of the Enchanted by Nature DLC, the community seems divided…
One Steam review says it’s one of the best packs Electronic Arts has released so far, while others say the fairy theme is a bit dull and superficial, which is very The Sims 4.
