The news that Metroid Prime 4 could finally be about to drop after a Korean ratings leak is exciting on its own, but fans are hoping for even more. Nintendo is sitting on a pile of big announcements, and now seems like the perfect moment to spill the beans.
Everything happening with Metroid Prime 4 is, frankly, fascinating. I’m not talking about that first announcement years ago, or Nintendo’s historic apology when they revealed the project was restarting from scratch at Retro Studios, the original trilogy’s creators. What’s more interesting is that Metroid Prime 4 was one of the first games confirmed for the Switch 2—and months after the new console’s launch, we still don’t have a release date.
Aside from that bizarre London Underground ad last month, which incorrectly claimed Metroid Prime 4 was already available, there are real signs the gears are finally turning. South Korea’s ratings board has now officially reviewed the next entry in the Samus Aran saga.
The report, which is public, describes it as a 12+ adventure game and shares a few short plot hints. It’s true that South Korea has rated games that never actually came out (like that Siren remaster/remake), or others, like Vampire the Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, which went through the process in January only to be delayed in May. Still, the fact that Metroid Prime 4 is progressing is great news for fans of Nintendo’s iconic bounty hunter.
Beyond that, gamers and community members are eagerly awaiting what’s been rumored for weeks: a new Nintendo Direct. Switch 2 just debuted Donkey Kong Bananza, with Kirby and the Forgotten Land DLC dropping in August and Pokémon Legends ZA arriving in October, so those are already set on the calendar. Not just Metroid Prime, but also Kirby Air Riders and the new Hyrule Warriors—both due in 2025—are in desperate need of a concrete date.
It’s logical to expect all of these titles to fill out the second half of the year, with preorders for some kicking off soon. Plus, there are still several major third-party releases planned for 2025, like Elden Ring Tarnished Edition, Hades 2, and Hollow Knight: Silksong, making the case for an imminent Nintendo Direct even stronger.
