Are updates becoming less frequent? Is the crossover mission being postponed? It sounds like the developers have started to give up on the game themselves.
According to Metacritic, Build a Rocket Boy has a particularly shameful rating. Almost two months after the release of MindsEye, it still has the lowest average score of any game this year. On a scale of 1 to 100, the press gave it an average score of 37. The game’s publisher, IO Interactive, certainly did not expect this. They may have withdrawn the opportunity for Leslie Benzies, former producer of Grand Theft Auto, and his studio to collaborate with Hitman, IO Interactive’s legendary bald assassin. They tweeted about this and the two upcoming updates:
“It’s been just over a month since MindsEye launched, and we’re grateful for your support and detailed feedback. Your input is shaping our ongoing efforts to enhance the game. In June, we committed to delivering a great experience for all players. Since then, we’ve released three updates, each addressing bug fixes and performance improvements across all devices, driven by your reports and suggestions. We hope you’re starting to see the impact of these changes, and we’re committed to building on this progress. Going forward, updates will be less frequent, but each one will bring more meaningful changes.
We apologize that the release of the Hitman x MindsEye Mission, originally scheduled for July, has been postponed. We look forward to delivering this exciting crossover when the time is right and will provide further updates as soon as possible. The 4th update, arriving in August, will deliver additional performance improvements and bug fixes, as well as community-requested features. These include skippable cutscenes to reduce friction when restarting checkpoints and instant access to published Player Content in Play.MindsEye for PC users. The fifth update, planned for September, will deliver continued performance and gameplay improvements on all platforms, alongside a number of enhancements to core gameplay mechanics,” Build A Rocket Boy wrote.
This situation is getting more and more awkward.
