Warner Falls for the Same Trap Again? New DC Game in the Works as if the Suicide Squad Flop Never Happened!

It seems Warner hasn’t learned its lesson from the Suicide Squad debacle, and another DC game in the exact same genre is already in development—confirmed by a new job posting at Warner Bros. Montreal.

The case of Suicide Squad was supposed to be a watershed moment for the gaming industry: an outsized budget, a live service approach in an oversaturated market, and a license that might have looked appealing on paper but utterly failed to draw in audiences. Warner Bros. even discussed focusing on just four franchises after that failure: Batman, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, and Mortal Kombat.

Well, that strategy didn’t last long. This morning, we got word that Warner Bros. Montreal is hiring for a new AAA project based on a DC Comics IP—one that sounds suspiciously like another Suicide Squad-style game, as highlighted in their latest financial report.

The job listing is for an executive producer at the Montreal studio, and the text reads: “You will lead the development of a world-class AAA game based on one of the iconic IPs in the Warner Bros. and DC Comics catalog. You’ll oversee the entire development process, from concept through launch and ongoing support, ensuring the game meets the highest standards of quality, innovation, and player engagement.”

Based on what’s known, the new game is being developed in Unreal Engine 5 and is likely years from launch. This is not another Batman title, since word from Rocksteady is that they’ve returned to their roots and are working with the Dark Knight again.

Major changes are happening at the company beyond gaming, too. Max has been rebranded as HBO Max, and now the Warner Bros. Discovery brand is being dropped altogether. The company will split into two separate entities: Warner Bros. and Discovery Global, officially retiring the latest corporate branding move.
