Johnny Depp Unleashes His Dark Side in Ridley Scott’s ‘Hyde’ Trailer [VIDEO]

MOVIE NEWS – Just a week after it was revealed that Johnny Depp and Ridley Scott are collaborating on a horror project with a twisted take on a classic tale, we now have the first trailer—and it’s every bit as bizarre as fans hoped. Depp, currently during a comeback after public legal battles, teams with Scott, who will soon direct the Bee Gees biopic for Paramount after clearing earlier production hurdles.

The project, titled Hyde, comes via Scott Free and Mechanical Cake and is a spiritual sequel to Robert Louis Stevenson’s Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Importantly, Hyde is not a film or TV series but a graphic novel series launching on Halloween. The nearly six-minute trailer recently dropped, and to mark the occasion, Depp wrote on Instagram: “As a boy, I carried a little leather copy of DR. JEKYLL & MR. HYDE everywhere I went… To step into Stevenson’s world, Ridley Scott’s vision, and bring this character to life—it’s pure madness and magic! Hope you like it…”

Picking up after the events of the classic novella, Hyde imagines a world where Jekyll did not end his own life, allowing his darker self to fully take over. Hyde roams the sewers of London, using his infamous serum on others and exploring the depths of his depravity with zero restraint.

‘Hyde’ Now Available for Pre-Order

Written by Mechanical Cake CEO Jesse Negron and Joe Matsumoto, with art by Gary Erskine and Chris Weston (The Filth) and editing by Dave Elliott, the two-volume series features Depp’s likeness as the main character. Depp himself influenced every aspect of Hyde’s character and choices. “This is an incredible opportunity to build a studio-level project that goes directly from creators to the audience—no filters,” said Negron. “Hyde, like everything Mechanical Cake does, is a little off the rails, in a good way.”

Hyde is available for pre-order now via Mechanical Cake’s website, with Volume One priced at $30. No word yet on Volume Two’s release, but with the trailer’s twisted visuals and Depp’s involvement, fans are in for a wild ride they won’t soon forget.
