Nintendo Switch 2 Sales Blow Away Expectations – Official Numbers Top Every Rumor!

Nintendo has finally ended the great Switch 2 mystery, confirming that its sales are even better than the rumors suggested. After earlier leaks pointed to 5 million consoles sold, Nintendo’s official report has pushed the numbers even higher.

Nintendo says it once again: Nintendo Switch 2 has exploded out of the gate commercially. Previously, we heard that the hybrid sold more than 3.5 million units in just four days, but a slip on the Kyoto company’s website revealed that this figure had climbed to 5 million by the end of June. After calling this info “inaccurate” and pulling it, fans were told to wait for the real numbers. The day has arrived—and it turns out the console is an even bigger hit than anyone expected.

According to Nintendo’s financial report for last quarter (April 1, 2025 – June 30, 2025), the company shipped 5.82 million Nintendo Switch 2 units to retailers worldwide—just for June. Across its first seven weeks, over 6 million consoles have been sold. No wonder the hybrid is now the fastest-selling device ever in both the US and Japan.

Software Soars, Old Switch Fades

On the software side, 8.67 million Nintendo Switch 2 games have been sold, with Mario Kart: World leading the pack at 5.63 million copies (including bundled versions). Nintendo’s report features an executive note: “Sales of the console increased at a strong pace after launch,” and in some regions, demand even outstripped supply.

The original Nintendo Switch has, as expected, taken a hit compared to last year—totally normal, given the arrival of its successor. Still, 0.98 million units were sold last quarter, bringing the grand total to 153.10 million consoles shipped worldwide. As for software, the platform has now moved 1,415.63 million games since its 2017 debut.

Nintendo’s Future: It’s All About Switch 2 Games

If we dig deeper into Nintendo’s business, this year the Super Mario parent company posted a 132% year-over-year increase in net sales, reaching 572 billion yen ($3.8 billion)—growth driven by the new console and its games. Operating profit is up 4.4% at 56.8 billion yen ($377 million), and ordinary profit now stands at 95.8 billion yen ($636 million).

Looking ahead, Nintendo plans to release more games for the Nintendo Switch 2, reaffirming: “We intend to continue releasing new titles for more than 100 million people around the world who play on Nintendo Switch.” The recent Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase delivered titles like Monster Hunter Stories 3 and Octopath Traveler 0, and Nintendo is confirmed for Gamescom 2025 in Cologne, Germany (August 20–24).
