According to new leaks, Rockstar Games is preparing to roll out age verification in GTA Online, which could soon restrict access to key features. UK players are likely to be the first impacted, but the new system may reach other regions just as fast.

As reported by Tez2 on X, GTA Online players may soon be required to verify their age to play the game or use certain features—such as phone messages, text chat, or Snapmatic. It’s not yet clear which regions will be targeted first, but with the UK’s Online Safety Act ramping up, British gamers seem like the first likely candidates.

Jokes aside, Rockstar is planning to implement age assurance checks in the near future, rolling them out by region.

Although age checks aren’t yet mandatory, several publishers and developers—like Roblox and Epic Games—have already started implementing age verification to restrict younger users’ access to features like voice or text chat. Given how much scrutiny GTA Online faces due to its content and setting, it’s no surprise Rockstar would follow suit. With a new version of the online game reportedly in the works to coincide with Grand Theft Auto VI next year, it’ll be interesting to see how age verification affects the future of the series.
