Gothic Remake: Delays Hurt Less When There’s a Free Demo for One of the Year’s Most Anticipated RPGs!

Delays sting less when you can try one of the most anticipated open-world fantasy RPGs right now thanks to its free demo. Gothic Remake, developed by Alkimia Interactive, is no longer set for a 2025 launch but is coming in early 2026, with a final date still to be announced.

After years of speculation, Alkimia Interactive and THQ Nordic have finally confirmed the release window for the long-awaited Gothic Remake. First announced in 2020, the remake aims to bring one of Europe’s darkest, most intense, and memorable RPG universes to a new generation—while still honoring the cult following that made it a legend.

Gothic Remake Won’t Arrive in 2025

As announced by publisher THQ Nordic, Gothic Remake is set to release in early 2026 (date TBA) for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and GOG. The renewed version promises to deliver an experience faithful to the original, but with modern design, controls, and combat. Whether you’re rediscovering Gothic or experiencing it for the first time, this is the perfect moment to dive into its ruthless, choice-driven world.

For those unfamiliar, the story unfolds in the Kingdom of Myrtana, beset by orc hordes, where King Rhobar II is forced to forge magical weapons from ore mined in Khorinis. His wizards create a magical barrier to hold thousands of prisoners, but the spell goes awry, and the prisoners seize control, forming rival factions and a new order.

Players become a nameless inmate whose arrival becomes a turning point in the colony’s saga. As “The Nameless Hero,” you must survive among monsters, criminals, and warring factions, forging alliances or clashing with others. Just like the 2001 original, the game’s narrative revolves around freedom of choice and its consequences—one of its most celebrated features.

Beyond the complete graphical redesign and faithful world recreation, Gothic Remake introduces an updated combat system that retains the spirit of the original but is far more fluid and dynamic. This blend of reverence and modernization should make THQ Nordic’s project a love letter to fans and the perfect gateway for newcomers to Western RPGs. Best of all: the free demo is already available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S!
