Assassin’s Creed Shadows – No Discovery Tour, but Templars Are Coming

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is one of the standout titles of the year, arguably the most visually stunning open-world game of 2025, and a strong action-adventure experience. Still, Ubisoft’s latest release has room for growth: more content, fine-tuning, and additions could enhance what’s already working. The company has already mapped out a roadmap for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and now more details have emerged on how they plan to make it happen.

No Discovery Tour, but Templars Are Coming

Let’s start with the bad news: Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will not include the Discovery Tour mode featured in Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla. Instead, the historical context and lore will be presented in-game via a Codex accessible to all, leaving teachers and history enthusiasts without the familiar format. According to a Reddit explanation, the decision was made to focus resources on the core experience—though this is seen as a step backward for educational use and those who wanted to learn in this interactive way.

The good news relates to the main storyline and narrative. Players who have completed the Assassin’s Creed Shadows campaign know that the Assassins vs. Templars conflict is only lightly touched upon with Naoe and Yasuke. The positive side is that Ubisoft has promised to delve deeper into this storyline, explaining that they first wanted to introduce the protagonists before expanding on the central conflict.

They have not specified when or how this will happen, but all signs point to Templar-related narrative arriving in future updates—most likely through the Claws of Awaji expansion set for release on September 16, 2025. Those who pre-ordered Assassin’s Creed Shadows will receive this DLC for free. Developers also noted that the “present-day” plotline will not be abandoned but will be reworked and expanded later, meaning Basim’s story in the present will be explored in the future.
