With little clarity on Sony’s plans for the second half of 2025, a September broadcast would make sense.
For the past six years, Sony has held a State of Play or similar presentation every September. According to Jeff Grubb, that tradition will continue this year. On Giant Bomb’s Game Mess Mornings, Grubb said Sony is planning a late-September State of Play—or possibly a larger PlayStation Showcase.
Discussing the weekend’s chatter around Fairgame$ with guest Seth Macy (IGN), Grubb said: “I’ve heard this, and I feel comfortable saying it: they’re planning a State of Play or a PlayStation Showcase for the end of September. We should hear updates from Sony pretty soon.”
The timing tracks: beyond Ghost of Yotei, Sony’s late-2025 lineup remains unclear. The Gamescom Opening Night would be a sensible venue to tease fall and winter plans—especially with Microsoft also appearing.
The most recent State of Play was in June and focused largely on third-party games, with several slated for 2026. A September show could bring nearer-term PlayStation updates.
