Sucker Punch Productions and Sony Interactive Entertainment used Europe’s biggest gaming show, Gamescom, to unveil the latest news about Ghost of Yotei.
The sequel to Ghost of Tsushima made its presence felt during the opening night event. A brand-new trailer, titled “Song of Vengeance,” was shown, and the studio confirmed that the Legends mode will indeed return. However, it will only become available around six months after the base game launches.
“Legends is our cooperative multiplayer mode, set in a fantastical, supernatural environment, contrasting with the grounded world of Ghost of Yotei. Just like Ghost of Tsushima Legends, Ghost of Yotei Legends will be free downloadable content for all owners of the game. It will feature two-player story missions and four-player survival battles. This time, players can choose from four character classes and take on demonic, giant versions of the Yōtei Six, along with an array of new enemies fighting alongside them,” explained Andrew Goldfarb, senior communications manager at Sucker Punch Productions, on the PlayStation Blog.
At the very least, the base game will give Sony a strong release in 2025 to stand beside its other titles. While Death Stranding 2: On the Beach has already been showcased this year, it cannot carry the PlayStation brand on its own. And while MLB: The Show continues as a multiplatform annual release, it doesn’t provide Sony with a true anchor. The reality is that Sony’s 2025 schedule looks fairly bleak, with little indication that the company intends to change course — though we expect them to go all out in 2026.
Ghost of Yotei will launch on October 2 for PlayStation 5, with a PC release expected sometime in 2026.
