Broken Mirror Games and Skybound Games have finally revealed a release date for their open-world survival horror, and the good news is that the wait won’t drag into next year.
I Hate This Place is inspired by Skybound’s Eisner Award–nominated comic book series, created by writer Kyle Starks and artist Artyom Topilin. Players step into the shoes of Elena, whose struggle for survival begins when she and her friend accidentally summon a malevolent force. Outnumbered and relentlessly hunted, players must scavenge every corner of Rutherford Ranch, from haunted forests to derelict towns and infested bunkers. Staying alive means gathering resources, crafting essential gear, upgrading your camp, and building outposts to find shelter.
A dynamic day-night cycle intensifies the experience: daylight allows for exploration and preparation, while nightfall unleashes stronger, more aggressive nightmares. The landscape becomes treacherous when your only light source is a flashlight, and sometimes your only chance is to hide and wait until morning.
Stealth and combat are intertwined. Many of Rutherford Ranch’s grotesque creatures hunt purely by sound, making brute force a dangerous gamble. Instead, players can weaponize sound itself—distracting foes or leading them into carefully laid traps. With bold comic-inspired visuals, a retro style drenched in ’80s flair, and a distinctive mix of horror, dark humor, camp, and gore, I Hate This Place delivers an atmosphere where dread and stylized charm collide.
The game launches on November 7 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
