Paradox Tinto has revealed the release date for the next grand strategy giant, set to arrive this fall.
Europa Universalis V spans nearly 500 years of history, letting players command the fate of hundreds of nations in a living, breathing world. Building on the franchise’s foundation of deeply researched history, the game introduces more intricate diplomacy, a refined economic model, an overhauled military system, and greater logistical depth, promising a challenge even for seasoned strategists.
Lead the Yuan dynasty, Italian city-states, warring Japanese clans, or even the Pope, guiding your nation from the late Middle Ages to the Age of Revolution. Historical events such as the Hundred Years’ War, the Protestant Reformation, dynasties rising and falling all shape the experience—but alternate history is just as possible. What if England secured its continental claims? What if China built an overseas empire? What if the Mongols held onto Russia? Every decision writes a new timeline.
Domestically, players must manage factions, offering privileges to some while curtailing others’ power to maintain stability. Diplomacy plays a crucial role, with no permanent friends, only permanent interests. Forge fragile alliances, demand favors, or intimidate rivals while watching every move. The military system has been rebuilt from the ground up: begin in the age of mercenaries and evolve into permanent armies and fortresses, with skilled commanders leading forces on land and sea.
The economic simulation reaches new levels of detail, with dozens of goods and commodities to produce and trade. Feed your population, trade surplus with others, and shape your society through choices that echo across centuries. For the first time in the series, populations appear on the map, divided by religion and culture, creating a nuanced system where governance directly impacts their prosperity.
Europa Universalis V launches on PC on November 4 for $60/€60. The Premium Edition, priced at $85/€85, includes two Chronicle Packs, one Immersion Pack, and cosmetic bonuses. Pre-orders come with the complete Europa Universalis IV soundtrack, covering all expansions and immersion packs (excluding the Sabaton collection).
