Orlando Bloom Would Return to Pirates of the Caribbean – But Only on One Condition!

MOVIE NEWS – You know it, and Orlando Bloom knows it too: if Pirates of the Caribbean ever sails back into theaters, the best way for it to succeed is by reuniting the original stars. The actor has once again spoken about returning to the saga, but only if there’s a strong script — and, ideally, if the old crew comes back with him.

Talk about the future of Pirates of the Caribbean hasn’t died down. While no official films are on the horizon, producer Jerry Bruckheimer recently shared his thoughts on what the next installment should look like. Now Orlando Bloom — one of the three lead stars of The Curse of the Black Pearl — has made it clear to Disney what he believes is the surest way to reignite the franchise’s box office magic.

In short, the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit actor said the ideal scenario would be for him and the rest of the original crew to take to the seas once again. While it’s nothing fans of the swashbuckling adventure series haven’t already thought, hearing it straight from one of the main stars adds weight to the discussion. Speaking at Fan Expo Chicago (via EW), Bloom explained:

“It’s all in the script, right? It’s all on the page, and I think there’s definitely a way to create something. I personally would love for everyone to come back. I think the way to succeed is to get everyone back. If they can, and if they want to. My thing is, if the script is great and ideally we all come back, it’s like, ‘Oh, gosh, gosh, gosh.’”

The Key: A Strong Script

Yet Bloom doesn’t seem to know much more about Disney’s plans than the rest of us. Regardless, he’s open to returning — if the script meets his standards. “What they’re thinking… is how to do it. Do they bring in a female lead who’s some kind of Jack replica? I don’t know. It hasn’t been decided yet how to do it, but if [the script] was great, [I’d be in].”

Whether the script turns out strong or not will only be revealed in time. Meanwhile, the big question of Johnny Depp’s return remains unanswered. Bruckheimer hinted days ago that the right story might persuade the actor to break his promise of never coming back to Pirates of the Caribbean — not even for $300 million. So far, however, Depp hasn’t dropped any major hints in that direction, and Keira Knightley’s involvement is also uncertain.
