Ripley Isn’t Alone Anymore: Alien: Earth Brings Back Something We Haven’t Seen Since 1997!

MOVIE NEWS – Ripley isn’t the only one anymore: something happens in the Alien universe that hasn’t been seen since 1997, and now the new series’ protagonist can do it too. Alien: Earth introduces a mystery not explored since Alien: Resurrection — one that could forever reshape the saga.

Alien: Earth is thrilling critics and fans alike, while also adding bold new layers to the franchise’s mythology. Created by Noah Hawley, this prequel to Ridley Scott’s original takes place in 2120, when an interstellar research vessel crashes on Earth with several dangerous alien species on board. Its fourth episode teases something not seen since Alien: Resurrection.

Spoiler alert: if you don’t want details from episode 4 of Alien: Earth, stop reading now.

Wendy’s Mysterious Bond With the Xenomorphs

Sydney Chandler stars as Wendy, the first hybrid created by the Prodigy Corporation — a result of transplanting children’s minds into synthetic adult bodies. From the very beginning, Wendy has displayed uncanny abilities, such as communicating with technology beyond her programming. Episode 4 focuses on her link to the xenomorphs. After an incident in the Prodigy lab where a “facehugger” was dissected, Wendy faints upon hearing its screams — a phenomenon suggesting she shares some bond with the creature.

The trailer confirms that Wendy can perceive and understand the sounds of the xenomorphs — an ability previously only shown in Ripley 8, the clone introduced in Alien: Resurrection. In that film, Ripley’s hybridization with Alien Queen DNA gave her superhuman strength, acidic blood, and an intuition that allowed her to sense the creatures’ intentions, even without verbal communication. Wendy’s hybrid mind seems to echo this connection, allowing her to tune into the aliens’ frequencies.

A Critical and Audience Hit

This new revelation could open the door to vast narrative possibilities — including the potential weaponization of the xenomorphs, as explored in the franchise’s comics. It’s a bold twist that has reinvigorated the Alien saga, earning the new series the acclaim that recent films struggled to achieve. Hawley has already expressed his desire to keep the series running for years, suggesting even more expansion of the Alien universe on television. New episodes of Alien: Earth drop weekly on Disney+.
