Atari plans to re-release the five games in question on new platforms to reach a wider audience.
The company also plans to add new content to the games and make them available through other distribution channels. But which five games has Atari acquired from the French publisher?
Cold Fear, developed by Darkworks, is a survival horror third-person shooter. It was originally released for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and PC in 2005. It is currently available for PC via Steam. I Am Alive is an action-adventure survival game developed by Ubisoft Shanghai. It was originally released for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC in 2012. It is currently available for PC via Steam. Child of Eden, a musical rail shooter developed by Q Entertainment and directed by Tetsuya Mizuguchi (Rez, Lumines), was originally released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2011. Grow Home is an adventure platformer developed by Ubisoft Reflections. It was originally released for PC via Steam in 2015, followed by a PlayStation 4 release later that year. Grow Up, also developed by Ubisoft Reflections, is the sequel to Grow Home. It was originally released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2016.
“Millions of players have experienced these worlds over the years, and this will open the door for longtime players to revisit those memories while inviting new audiences to discover them for the first time. Atari has a rich gaming legacy and a deep appreciation for these classic titles. We’re excited to see how they’ll evolve and connect with players in fresh, meaningful ways,” said Deborah Papiernik, Atari Vice President of New Business, in a press release.
“Ubisoft and Atari both have a legacy of creating worlds that players can fall in love with—games that have resonated with generations of players, not just because of how they played, but because of how they made us feel. We’re excited to reintroduce these titles while exploring ways to expand and evolve these franchises,” added Wade Rosen, Atari chairman and CEO.
At least someone will take care of these games.
