The retrofuturistic sci-fi action platformer will not launch this year, joining the growing list of titles delayed to 2026.
Set in an alternate 1980s America, Replaced blends free-flowing action combat with a deep dystopian narrative. Players step into the role of R.E.A.C.H., an artificial intelligence unwillingly trapped in a human body, struggling to adapt to human life in Phoenix City and beyond. Following a devastating nuclear event, society has suffered lasting damage and spiraled into chaos. Outlaws thrive, corruption and greed dominate, and those in power see people and their organs as mere currency. Replaced is designed as a single-player experience with cinematic platforming, pixel art visuals, and fluid action combat.
“We know our community is incredibly excited for Replaced, and it’s no secret that this has taken longer than expected – we sincerely apologize for that. From the start, our goal has been to do what’s best for the project, which means delivering something truly special. The good news is that we are now very close to finishing development, and Replaced will launch on PC and Xbox Series in spring 2026,” wrote director Yura Zhdanovich in a press release.
Originally planned for 2025, the Sad Cat Studios title was announced for Xbox Series, Xbox One, and PC. However, the latest trailers no longer mention the Xbox One version, which is not surprising in today’s industry where previous-gen releases are no longer expected. For publisher Thunderful Games, this isn’t a major setback. One of the latest videos even highlights how much Replaced has evolved over the last few years of development.
Replaced is scheduled to arrive sometime between March and May 2026 on Xbox Series and PC. It would come as no surprise if the game eventually joined the Xbox Game Pass lineup after release.
