MOVIE NEWS – The long-awaited teaser trailer has finally landed for the 2022-announced Return to Silent Hill, the newest film adaptation of the iconic video game series. Directed by Christopher Gans, who previously helmed the 2006 Silent Hill movie, the screenplay is penned by Gans, Sandra Vo-Anh, and William Josef Schneider. The project aims to reimagine Konami’s legendary survival horror for the big screen once again.
James Sunderland is portrayed by British actor Jeremy Irvine (War Horse, Outlander), while Mary is played by Hannah Emily Anderson (Jigsaw). The teaser showcases signature imagery from Silent Hill 2, including the terrifying Pyramid Head, giant spiders, and a hospital engulfed in flames. According to U.S. distributor Cineverse, the film is being marketed as a “faithful adaptation” of Konami’s 2001 classic.
However, at just 40 seconds, the preview has failed to convince much of the fanbase. As NME reports, many have already labeled the teaser “trash,” comparing it to a strange blend of big-budget production and amateur fan film. Others slammed the weak CGI and lamented that Silent Hill’s essence—the dark, melancholic, oppressive atmosphere—appears to have been replaced by clichéd action tropes.
The movie is scheduled to hit theaters in Hungary on January 29, 2026.
Meanwhile, Japanese publisher Konami has revived the long-dormant series after 13 years. Silent Hill f, the first new entry in over a decade, launches September 25 this year, ahead of the film’s release. A full remake of Silent Hill 2, which directly inspired the film, was released last year and reviewed extensively by us.
