This Game Could Be the True Power Showcase of the Switch 2!

According to hardware experts, one game has shown more than any other what Nintendo’s new system can achieve. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade may be the third-party title that first demonstrates the Switch 2’s true capabilities.

Since the Nintendo Switch 2 is still a very young system, the performance of third-party titles is being watched closely to see exactly where its limits lie. While it may still be too early to draw final conclusions, a new benchmark seems to be emerging: the Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade port.

Square Enix’s RPG caught the eye of Digital Foundry, well known for analyzing game performance across platforms. A few days ago, they shared some remarks on the Resetera forums after trying out a demo of FF7R on Switch 2 at Gamescom 2025, though the footage shown was understandably recorded with an external camera.

“Right now, this is the best I’ve seen on Switch 2. The game looked fantastic, running at a stable 30 frames per second, with excellent motion blur. It was absolutely rock solid. It was comparable to—or even better than—the PS4 version, somewhere between PS4 and PS5. The image quality was flawless, 1080p, just like the screen. That really made me happy.”

What Will FF7R Be Like on Nintendo Switch 2?

While Digital Foundry reported a locked 30 FPS, My Nintendo News later claimed that event staff said the game was actually running at 40 FPS in performance mode. The idea has been well received on Reddit, especially since 40 FPS is considered a sweet spot for graphics, performance, and battery life on the Steam Deck. Still, we’ll need to wait for Square Enix to officially confirm it.

Until then, all signs point to Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade incorporating some graphical enhancements from the PS5 version on Switch 2, with reasonable sacrifices in resolution and other details. Originally released in 2020 on PS4, the game doesn’t yet have a release date on the hybrid console, but it is expected to arrive later this year.
