TECH NEWS – According to rumors, the South Korean company will give the device a large rear camera bump, similar to that of the iPhone 17 Pro, thanks to more powerful technology.

Apple will unveil the iPhone 17 family in September, and the Pro models will feature a significantly redesigned back. The bump will cover not only the rear camera but most of the back. Samsung is reportedly planning the same design for the Galaxy S26 Ultra because it’s expected to receive a long-overdue camera upgrade—and a large bump is the only way to properly house the sensors without resorting to absurdly tall individual camera humps.

Samsung’s reluctance to add new camera hardware to its flagships is understandable, as it’s costly and would lower margins. Instead, the company has focused on software and computational photography to improve image and video quality. However, there comes a time when hardware upgrades become mandatory. According to Newsis, as sensors grow larger, manufacturers either adopt bigger camera bumps or (in Apple’s case) one massive bump to make the design look more integrated.

Samsung adopting the same approach suggests the Galaxy S26 Ultra may debut impressive camera innovations. It’s possible the company will introduce a camera island housing multiple sensors for a highly versatile setup. Previously, we heard Samsung wouldn’t upgrade the S26 Ultra’s battery; while peak charging power will rise to 60W (up from 45W), many consumers expected a higher-capacity cell. Notably, Samsung may offset this with substantial camera improvements.

As smartphones are increasingly used for video and photography, upgrades to the camera (and microphone) are essential. Samsung is working to keep pace.
