Baldur’s Gate 3: Another Honorable Gesture from Larian!

The Belgian team has proven several times this year that they are human, too. Now, another heartwarming story is linked to Larian’s name.

A few weeks ago, Naoness posted on Reddit about how heartbroken they were and shared a video of a severely damaged limited-edition Baldur’s Gate 3 vinyl record. They had accidentally left the record in direct sunlight, which was so hot that it melted. The post served as a warning to other fans, but the damage was already done. The record was a limited edition gift from Naoness’s wife, making it virtually irreplaceable. Recently, however, Naoness posted again on the Baldur’s Gate 3 subreddit with a surprising update: Larian had sent a free replacement for the melted record, along with some pins. Apparently, someone from the Larian team saw Naoness’s original post and reached out to help. This proves once again that Larian really cares about its fans.

Naoness was thrilled with the replacement and said they couldn’t be more grateful to Larian. They said that Larian had already given them one of the best games ever made, and now they had done this kind thing as well. As for the original disc, which melted, Naoness plans to display it alongside Astarion’s quote about “the power of the sun.” They hope Neil Newborn will sign it as well.

In another community-friendly move a few weeks ago, Larian expanded the toolkit for modding Baldur’s Gate 3, giving players even more freedom. This is particularly noteworthy, as Larian confirmed earlier this year that they have no plans to make Baldur’s Gate 4. However, strong support for mods and community-created content allows players to continue enjoying the game long after completing the main campaign.

In April, Larian supported a mod for a completely different game: the Stardew Valley Baldur’s Village mod. Wizards of the Coast briefly removed the mod, but Larian CEO Swen Vincke stood up in its defense. Larian seems to still adhere to Vincke’s motto, which he once summed up in an interview about Baldur’s Village: “Happy player, happy business.”

And truly: this is not something we would likely see from Activision or Electronic Arts.
