We get a 15-minute glimpse of how the fan-made project Skyblivion transposes The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion into Skyrim’s engine.
At the annual Creation Mod Con, the Skyblivion team showcases the progress of their ambitious project, and this year they prepared something special. In the demo dungeon, players encounter the rude Dark Elf emperor voiced by Sir Patrick Stewart, battle Mythic Dawn cultists, navigate the sewers, and finally emerge into the sunlight. Skyblivion’s philosophy leans more toward remake than remaster, meaning redesigned dungeons that resemble Skyrim’s underground labyrinths — often leading either to freedom or back to the start. The demo dungeon itself was intentionally kept simple, but it still highlights how much Cyrodiil has changed beyond the sewers.
“For many fans, the defining Elder Scrolls moment is stepping out of the tutorial dungeon into the open world. Seeing that recreated in Skyblivion, with the artistry and passion our team has put in — from the emperor’s face and new custom menus to the dungeon design and quest systems — is a surreal reminder of how far the project has come in the last 10 years. It represents years of dedication, marking the start of players’ journeys, and offering a glimpse into the world we’ve built together. Many departments and individuals contributed to bringing this opening sequence to life, and it truly celebrates everyone’s talent and effort.” said Rebelzize, Skyblivion’s project lead.
Several aspects have changed, such as the lockpicking system, which now borrows elements from The Elder Scrolls Online while keeping echoes of Oblivion’s notorious mini-game. Animations clearly reflect Skyrim’s style, like the ruler crossing his arms before abruptly changing his mind — a recognizable Skyrim gesture. One charming detail that remains: the last rat in the sewer is still friendly and can be bypassed without combat.
After the dungeon, the broadcast showed the first area of the Ayleid ruins, several open-world zones, and the towns of Cheydinhal and Anvil, which looked stunning at night.
