The Witcher IV: It Will Draw Inspiration from Andrzej Sapkowski’s Latest Book!

CD Projekt RED (CDPR) has done something like this before, so the Polish studio will likely acknowledge the author’s work.

Earlier this year, Epic Games held its State of Unreal presentation. The presentation featured an impressive tech demo of The Witcher IV, offering a preview of the graphical fidelity CDPR aims to achieve in the final game. However, the game is still far from release. Although development is in full swing — with 444 people working on it, according to CDPR — the Polish team has confirmed that The Witcher IV will not be released before 2027.

In the meantime, fans are eagerly awaiting the latest news, some of which was shared on Twitter by Philipp Weber, the narrative director who previously worked as a mission designer on The Witcher III: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077. After Weber shared an image of Crossroads of Ravens, the latest work by the saga’s creator Andrzej Sapkowski, which is set to be released in English on September 30, another user asked if any elements from the book would be included in The Witcher IV.

Weber replied that he couldn’t reveal exactly how they would do this. However, Season of Storms was released during the development of The Witcher 3, and they tried to incorporate some of its new elements back then as well. We can therefore expect a similar approach in The Witcher IV. Still, Crossroads of Ravens is a prequel that predates Season of Storms (which itself was also a prequel if we consider Geralt of Rivia’s timeline).

The good news is that CDPR has had a solid relationship with Sapkowski for quite some time. Initially, Sapkowski sold the rights to the game for a relatively small amount. However, after witnessing the enormous success of the third installment, the writer demanded $16 million from the Polish studio, claiming that the original rights only applied to the first game. A little over a year later, the two sides reached a new agreement that outlined the framework for future collaboration. Therefore, it is likely that CDPR has already consulted Sapkowski to ensure their ideas for The Witcher IV align with his vision.
