Is Blizzard Finally Adding Loot Filters to Diablo 4?

Even Blizzard isn’t happy with how Diablo 4 currently handles loot, so the studio is now considering a feature that fans have been demanding for years. Loot filters might finally be on their way to the hellish action RPG.

Since the game’s launch in 2023, Diablo 4 players have been asking Blizzard Entertainment to introduce a loot filtering system. Now, the California-based developer is dropping clear hints that this long-requested feature could be included in a future update, although no official confirmation has been given yet.

For those unfamiliar, loot filtering allows RPG fans to define which stats they care about on weapons and armor. The game then alerts players only when an item with the desired attributes drops, streamlining the process of finding and equipping valuable gear.

In practice, if your Diablo 4 character is already highly advanced, you’ll likely have no interest in items that don’t boost a specific attribute or lack certain keywords in their affixes. Loot filters dramatically speed up identifying useful gear and comparing it to what you already own.

The Current Diablo System Falls Short

At the moment, Diablo 4 does not have such an option. Still, the developers are leaving the door open for the future. Speaking during the Burning Questions program (formerly Campfire Chats) on YouTube, covered by Mein-MMO, lead designer Dan Tanguay said:

“We’ve listened to everyone’s feedback [that they want loot filtering], and we’ve already implemented some systems before the Season 4 itemization rework, almost like smart filtering, but it feels like we’ve hit the limits of that solution. That’s why we’re discussing loot filtering now. But right now, I can’t say much more.”

If Blizzard itself admits that its stopgap filtering method is no longer sufficient, it seems only a matter of time before the feature players have been requesting from the start makes it into the game. Diablo 4’s Season 10 update is set to launch on September 23. A few weeks ago, journalist Adrián Mira also suggested that one of the franchise’s long-lost classes, the Paladin, might be making a comeback.
