A New Era of Dinosaurs Begins on BBC Earth

MOVIE NEWS – After 25 years, dinosaurs are returning to the BBC – the first episode of Dinosaurs: The Rulers of the Earth will air on September 4 at 9 p.m. on BBC Earth, dubbed in Hungarian. This new chapter not only transforms the visual spectacle into something entirely fresh but also pioneers scientific accuracy: every frame is based on the latest paleontological findings and real evidence.

The original 1999 series (released in Hungary in 2000) revolutionized the genre and reshaped how we think about dinosaurs. Generations grew up with it, and its BAFTA-winning impact is still felt today. Now, a quarter century later, the BBC returns to the world of dinosaurs with a new approach: not only showcasing the creatures themselves, but also revealing what modern science knows about them, directly from excavation sites.

One of the innovations of the new series is that it doesn’t just present species in general, but follows the story of a single dinosaur in a dramatic moment of its life. The premiere episode features Clover, an orphaned Triceratops calf fighting for survival; Sobek, a Spinosaurus tackling the challenges of fatherhood; and George, a young Gastonia trying to withstand raptor attacks. Later episodes introduce Rose the Albertosaurus, Albi the Pachyrhinosaurus, and Old Grande, the giant Lusotitan searching for love.

Spectacular CGI and VFX sequences are intertwined with real excavations: viewers will watch paleontologists uncover fossils and see how they are transformed into lifelike digital reconstructions. Executive producer Andrew Cohen emphasized: “The dinosaurs shown here are all based on real scientific evidence being unearthed right now.” Across six episodes, the show brings not just the prehistoric past but also the present of science to audiences worldwide.
