Final Fantasy VII: The Trilogy Will Be Released on All Platforms! [VIDEO]

At the moment, only one part has a confirmed release date on the two missing current-gen consoles, but Square Enix announced that all three parts will eventually follow the same path.

Square Enix revealed that Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will launch on Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch 2 on January 22, alongside a Microsoft Store release on PC. Physical collectors on Nintendo hardware may be disappointed, as the Switch 2 version will be distributed on a game key card. Originally, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade debuted on June 10, 2021, for PlayStation 5, followed by a December 16, 2021, PC release via the Epic Games Store, and later on Steam on June 17, 2022.

The Intergrade edition is an expanded version of the first chapter of the remake project, featuring an additional storyline running parallel to the main events. Players step into the shoes of Cloud Strife, reliving the first act of the 1997 classic, meeting unforgettable allies, and exploring the dystopian city of Midgar. Culminating in a dramatic escape, this pivotal chapter lays the foundation for one of the most iconic narratives in gaming. Having sold over seven million digital copies across PlayStation and PC, this upcoming launch will also mark the series’ debut on Xbox, opening the doors to new players who can now experience the 2020 Game Awards RPG of the Year.

Square Enix also confirmed that the second part, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, will arrive on Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch 2. The game was initially released on February 29, 2024, for PlayStation 5, with a PC release on January 23, 2025. The third and final installment of the trilogy—still untitled—will likewise be multiplatform, with versions planned for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.

“The Final Fantasy VII Remake series will expand to major platforms in the future. PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC—we’re committed to ensuring players can enjoy each part in a way that suits their lifestyle. As we approach the final part, I’m truly grateful that more people will have the chance to experience the world we’ve poured our hearts into,” said director Naoki Hamaguchi on Twitter.

Square Enix is clearly moving forward with a full multiplatform strategy.
