Henry Cavill Fans Slam Liam Hemsworth’s Geralt After The Witcher Season 4 Reveal

MOVIE NEWS – This past weekend, fans finally got their first look at Liam Hemsworth stepping into Geralt’s boots in Season 4 of The Witcher, which drops on Netflix October 30. The casting change sparked a firestorm online: while Henry Cavill’s supporters insist he will forever be the one true White Wolf, reactions to Hemsworth’s debut ranged from skeptical to outright hostile. Although a few viewers are willing to give him a chance, the overwhelming sentiment is far from welcoming.

After months of speculation, Netflix unveiled the first footage of Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher’s upcoming fourth season. The actor takes over from Henry Cavill, who carried the series for three seasons before bowing out in October 2022. Fans quickly flooded X/Twitter with their opinions — and they weren’t pulling punches.

“Henry Cavill is and always will be THE WITCHER,” one user wrote, while another added: “I feel bad for Liam, picking up the mantle of the Buff Nerd GOAT is an impossible task.” Sympathy was scarce, though, with plenty of comments that were downright harsh. One fan vented: “As much as I love The Witcher, I won’t watch this. Cavill was and always will be Geralt. Liam looks like Christopher Lambert’s Raiden in Mortal Kombat… I can’t unsee it.”

When Cavill announced his departure, he praised Hemsworth as “the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth” and said he looked forward to seeing his take on the character. Hemsworth, for his part, paid tribute to Cavill’s performance and admitted that, as “a Witcher fan”, the opportunity was a dream come true.

Some Fans Willing to Give Hemsworth a Chance — Kind Of

Not every comment dragged the newcomer. One fan wrote: “Still furious about Henry leaving, but it doesn’t look awful.” Another added: “It looks fine, but it’s not Geralt. Liam’s a solid actor, but Cavill is Geralt. Liam feels like discount Geralt.” One user summed it up bluntly: “Maybe if we didn’t have Henry first, I might like this version, but as it stands, no thanks.”

Others pointed out that the show’s bigger problems lie elsewhere: “Liam’s great, Henry’s great. The issue isn’t who plays Geralt, it’s the showrunners and writers constantly misunderstanding what makes the character work. That’s what drove fans away.”

Regardless, Hemsworth will have little time to win over skeptics: Netflix has already confirmed the series will wrap after its fifth season.
