Super Mario Bros. Wonder: A Surprise Character on Nintendo Switch 2? [VIDEO]

Super Mario Bros. Wonder is getting an expanded edition on Nintendo’s next-generation console, and it looks like a new playable character might join the roster.

Fans believe they’ve spotted an unannounced character in the Super Mario Bros. Wonder Nintendo Switch 2 Edition trailer (embedded below). During Friday’s Nintendo Direct, Nintendo announced Super Mario Bros. Wonder: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park, which will launch on Switch 2 next spring. Among other things, the release will include a brand-new area featuring a series of multiplayer challenges. However, eagle-eyed fans claim they have already uncovered one of Bellabel Park’s secrets by analyzing the UI elements in the reveal trailer.

One Reddit user pointed out that the icon shown at the two-minute mark clearly depicts Rosalina alongside the other playable characters. The Mario Galaxy character did not appear in the original Super Mario Bros. Wonder, but she did show up in titles such as Super Mario 3D World. Rosalina would fit nicely into Nintendo’s 2026 Mario plans, especially with a Super Mario Galaxy movie currently in production and both Galaxy games from the Wii being re-released on the Nintendo Switch. As part of Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros. 40th anniversary celebration this week, the company also unveiled the film’s first trailer.

Alongside the trailer, Nintendo revealed several other projects: a Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 bundle for the Switch, Mario Tennis Fever and Yoshi and the Mysterious Book for the Switch 2, and Super Mario Bros. Wonder: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park. Together, these releases mark a fitting way to celebrate Mario’s milestone birthday. Still, it’s worth remembering that Mario’s legacy began with Mario Bros., Donkey Kong, and Donkey Kong Jr.—when the plumber was still called Jumpman.

Nintendo clearly believes there can never be too much Mario. But the question remains: who’s going to pay for it?
