Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo are taking the Sengoku-era action RPG in a slightly darker direction.

It will be available in several versions. In Nioh 3, players will take on the role of Tokugawa Takechiyo, who is poised to become the next shogun during Japan’s turbulent Sengoku period. Meanwhile, in the shadows, Takechiyo’s younger brother, Tokugawa Kunimatsu, consumed by hatred toward his brother’s ascension to power, plots to overthrow him. Empowered by a sinister force, Kunimatsu leads a horde of yokai in a fierce assault on Takechiyo, abruptly ending the era of peace and plunging Japan into chaos. Guided by the mysterious power of his guardian spirit, Kusanagi, Takechiyo transcends time to survive this dire kingdom and become shogun.

The story of Nioh 3 unfolds on a larger scale than any previous game in the series. Spanning various eras and regions, it includes Edo Castle and the Tōtōmi region during the Sengoku period, which players could explore in the Alpha demo, as well as Kyoto, the capital of the Heian period, which was recently unveiled. Players will also be able to freely explore each era in an open field, featuring beautiful and distinct environments.

During his perilous quest to foil his brother’s conspiracy, Takechiyo will face various yokai and other powerful enemies while taking on the challenge of the Crucible. Throughout their journey, players will encounter characters from different eras, such as Takeda Shingen, Minamoto no Yoshitsune, and Minamoto no Yoritomo. Fans will also see other familiar figures cross paths with Tokugawa Takechiyo, including Hattori Hanzo, Honda Tadakatsu, and Saito Fuku.

Actors Tao Tsuchiya and Kanata Hongo lend their talents to Nioh 3 as Himiko, the mysterious queen of Yamatai-koku, and Kunimatsu Tokugawa, respectively. Two behind-the-scenes videos have been released to commemorate this announcement.

Players can pre-order the Digital Deluxe Edition digitally. This edition includes the base game, the Digital Pre-Order Bonus (Hellfire Warrior Armor Set, Hellfire Ninja Attire Set, and Scampuss Furball Netsuke Charm Accessory), the Digital Deluxe Edition Bonus (Infernal Weapons Set with 14 types and Kodama Netsuke Charm Accessory), two add-on downloadable contents, and a Season Pass Bonus (Chijiko Netsuke Charm Accessory). The Season Pass, which includes two add-on downloadable contents as well as the Season Pass Bonus, is also available to purchase separately.

A SteelBook edition is also available for pre-order and includes the base game and two exclusive downloadable content bonuses. All versions of the game come with an Early Purchase Bonus, redeemable from the PlayStation Store and Steam for a limited time after the game’s release.

Players can also pre-order a special PlayStation 5 physical edition exclusively through the NIS America Store. The Nioh 3 Treasure Box includes the base game, a Scampuss Furball Nesuke Charm Keychain, a Nioh 3 Original Desk Pad, an Official Artbook, and a Nioh 3 Selection Soundtrack CD. In Europe, a SteelBook edition is available for preorder and includes the base game and two exclusive DLCs.

Nioh 3 will be released on February 6 for the PlayStation 5 and PC.
