Although Microsoft has not officially confirmed the project, it is almost certain that Halo Studios, formerly known as 343 Industries, is working on it.
According to a reliable insider, the rumored Halo: Combat Evolved Remake may include a sprint feature. Neither the original Halo: Combat Evolved nor its 2011 remaster included such a mechanic, so its introduction will likely spark debates among fans. Rumors about the remake’s development began circulating in mid-2024. The speculation intensified when Halo Studios announced its transition to Unreal Engine 5 and showed Master Chief in his Halo: Combat Evolved armor in a tech demo set in a location that looked straight out of the original game. Despite all this, Halo Studios has never commented on the project.
In recent months, Rebs Gaming, a well-known Halo insider, has shared numerous rumors about the Halo: Combat Evolved Remake. In his latest video, embedded below, he claims that a source at a support studio told him the current test version includes sprinting. Sprinting has always divided the Halo community. It first appeared in 2010 as an armor ability in Halo: Reach and has been present in every major installment since.
While sprinting is a core mechanic in most FPS franchises, it has always been a more controversial addition in Halo. Many players who loved the earlier games feel the series was at its best with a slower pace, though others accept that sprinting is necessary to keep the franchise competitive in the modern FPS era.
Rebs Gaming also mentioned that the remake uses a hybrid of Unreal Engine 5 and a modified version of the Halo: Reach Blam Engine. This approach is similar to how The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered functioned behind the scenes, with two engines running simultaneously. He also noted that level design changes are planned, specifically highlighting the infamous The Library mission from Halo: Combat Evolved, which will receive improvements.
As with all rumors, this information should be taken with a grain of salt until Halo Studios officially confirms or denies it.
