MOVIE NEWS – Although a feature-length continuation of Peaky Blinders is already headed to Netflix, fans of the Shelby crime saga have more to look forward to than just the film. A brand-new television series has officially been greenlit, picking up where the movie leaves off and expanding the legacy of Birmingham’s most notorious family.
As reported by Deadline, both Netflix and the BBC have commissioned two additional seasons of Peaky Blinders, which will take place after the events of The Immortal Man. The follow-up series will consist of two six-episode runs, with original creator Steven Knight returning as executive producer and Cillian Murphy reprising his iconic role. It remains unclear whether other members of the original cast will return, as casting decisions are still underway. What is certain is that the Shelby clan will once again be front and center — this time navigating the chaotic aftermath of the Second World War.
Here’s the official synopsis released for the upcoming show: “Britain, 1953. In the wake of relentless bombing during WWII, Birmingham is rising from the rubble, forging a new future from concrete and steel. In this next chapter of Steven Knight’s Peaky Blinders, the fierce struggle to control the city’s massive reconstruction project erupts into a brutal conflict of near-mythical scale. At the core of this storm lies the Shelby family, their hands still stained with blood.”
Knight has had a busy year. He recently launched another historical Netflix drama, House of Guinness, which earned strong critical praise. He’s also behind A Thousand Blows, a Hulu boxing series starring Stephen Graham, now gearing up for its second season. Meanwhile, his most ambitious project yet — a full-scale reboot of the James Bond franchise — is in development at Amazon, with Denis Villeneuve attached as director. As for Peaky Blinders, Knight hinted that the upcoming series will focus on a “new generation of Shelbys” taking charge of the family legacy.
“I’m incredibly excited to unveil this next chapter in the Peaky Blinders universe. Once again, the story will be deeply rooted in Birmingham and will chronicle a city’s rebirth from the ashes of the Blitz. The next generation of Shelbys is stepping into power — and the journey promises to be one hell of a ride.”
The Immortal Man – Story, Cast & Release Plans
Directed by Tom Harper (Heart of Stone) and written by Steven Knight, The Immortal Man serves as the direct cinematic continuation of the sixth season. The film’s ensemble cast features Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer), Rebecca Ferguson (Dune), Tim Roth (Reservoir Dogs), Stephen Graham (Adolescence), Sophie Rundle (After the Flood), Ned Dennehy (Culprits), Packy Lee (Blue Lights), Ian Peck (His Dark Materials), Jay Lycurgo (Titans), and Barry Keoghan (The Banshees of Inisherin).
Although plot specifics remain tightly under wraps, Knight has described the movie as “a fiery and explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders saga, as the Shelby family plunges headfirst into war.” While he’s confirmed that the universe will continue to grow beyond the film, its Netflix premiere date is still a mystery. Initially expected in late 2025, the release may now slip into early 2026. Fans, however, can rest assured — there’s plenty more Shelby drama on the horizon, with a full two-season sequel series already in active development.
