It’s not enough that Microsoft raised the price of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate by 50% — the Redmond tech giant has also been cutting back on discounts elsewhere.
The three tiers of Xbox Game Pass have been updated, each offering new features. However, it appears that some older perks have been removed. One of them was the 10% discount that Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers previously received on Call of Duty add-ons, including COD Points. As CharlieIntel reported on Twitter, before the price hike, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscriptions provided discounts on titles included in the Game Pass catalog, and in the case of Call of Duty, subscribers enjoyed a 10% discount on cosmetic add-ons and COD Points. That is no longer the case.

This is the latest example of Microsoft sending a clear message: Xbox gaming and its services (including Game Pass) are no longer designed for those trying to save money on their yearly gaming expenses. The removal of the 10% discount — following the Game Pass price hike, which came after the Xbox Series console price increase in the U.S. (Microsoft’s second price hike this year) — will only deepen the gap between Xbox and its player base.
Recently, Xbox revealed that players will have to pay a premium fee to enjoy gaming on the platform in the future. It’s no surprise that, after the console price increase, the removal of Microsoft Points redemption for Game Pass subscriptions, and the Game Pass price hike, many users rushed to Microsoft’s website to cancel their subscriptions.
With the cost of living continuing to rise, people are being encouraged to spend less on nonessential aspects of their lives, such as gaming. Deciding to abandon Xbox and its services becomes even easier when Microsoft simultaneously raises prices and removes discounts.
