Resident Evil Requiem: Have We Already Seen Leon in the Game?

According to an insider, an important character from Resident Evil 2 may have already appeared in Capcom’s next major title — and most fans didn’t even notice.

On Twitter, Dusk Golem claimed that Leon S. Kennedy can already be spotted in the first trailer for Resident Evil 9 — or more precisely, Resident Evil Requiem, since Capcom seems to be skipping the number again, much like it did with Village. The insider says Leon appears in two subtle ways that will only become obvious later, once we look back on the events revealed in the trailer. He also stated that based on the game’s structure, he believes players will spend most of the campaign controlling Leon.

Dusk Golem sounds very confident about his information, suggesting there’s likely truth to his claims. If it were a hoax, it’s unlikely he would stand by it this strongly. Capcom appears to be playing with expectations, as the RE Engine-powered title is officially said to star Grace Ashcroft, a young and inexperienced FBI agent with little firearms training. This setup could strengthen the survival-horror aspect of the game, which is reportedly playable from both first- and third-person perspectives.

March 2026 will mark the 30th anniversary of the Resident Evil franchise, and it’s safe to assume Capcom will go all out to celebrate. Over three decades, the series has seen both highs and lows — fans still remember the divisive Resident Evil 6 as one of its weakest points. Resident Evil Requiem may not only kick off the next era of the series but also serve as a nostalgic homage to its long history.

The game is shaping up to be one of the first major releases of 2026, although other surprises could still arrive early in the year. For now, it’s confirmed to launch on February 27 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Rumors also suggest a possible PlayStation 4 version for those not yet ready to upgrade.
