The Steppes Are Calling: Try This Free Open-World Survival with RDR2-Level Horses — 13th-Century Mongolia Awaits!

You can now test-drive an open-world survival game with horses as realistic as Red Dead Redemption 2’s and a one-of-a-kind setting. The Legend of Khiimori drops you into 13th-century Mongolia as a messenger of the steppes.

No shortage of gorgeous indies struggle for attention in today’s release flood. When a project looks as strong as The Legend of Khiimori, though, it’s worth spotlighting. You’ll play a young courier in 13th-century Mongolia: breeding and training horses, hauling deliveries across vast grasslands, and contending with a world brimming with life — and danger.

Developed by Aesir Interactive and NightinGames and published by Mindscape, The Legend of Khiimori aims for a truly realistic bond between rider and mount. You’ll raise horses with unique traits, train them for deserts, mountains, and harsh climates, and become a bona fide Yam rider. Equine behavior and animation are being crafted with input from specialists for authenticity.

Beyond horsemanship, survival is central. You’ll gather resources, hunt smartly, and prepare food and tonics to keep your animals in peak condition. Route planning and kit prep are critical to protect cargo and safeguard both horse and courier.

Archery anchors survival and procurement: different arrow types and gunpowder help fend off wildlife, hunt responsibly, and tackle varied tasks. Each mission challenges your resource management, tactical planning, and mastery of mount and bow, building a demanding, immersive open world.
