MOVIE NEWS – With a new season of Fallout on the way, two seasons of God of War, and whatever the Tomb Raider adaptation turns out to be, you might assume Prime Video would tap the brakes and shelve video game projects for a while. Not happening – Amazon & MGM Studios has now officially lined up the leads for its live-action Life Is Strange series.

The narrative adventure that has given the genre’s fans so many highlights is heading to the small screen with Maisy Stella and Tatum Grace Hopkins set to play Chloe and Max, respectively. You may recognize Stella from her role opposite Aubrey Plaza in My Old Ass (2024) – also available on Prime Video – or from the musical drama Nashville. Hopkins, meanwhile, is only credited in a 2024 short film so far, though she has already built a stage career on Broadway.

Either way, both are young actors who seem like a strong fit for the characters as fans picture them.

It’s also notable that the main cast is already in place considering we only first learned last September that the series would land on Prime Video. That suggests development is further along than expected and, if nothing goes sideways, filming could start in the coming months. The platform is clearly continuing to fill out its slate with a strategy that treats video games as a major pipeline – an understandable move after the success of Fallout. Here’s hoping they deliver again.

What Is the Life Is Strange Series About?

Alongside the casting news, a first synopsis has been shared: “The series follows Max, a photography student who discovers she can rewind time while saving the life of her childhood best friend, Chloe. As she struggles to understand this new ability, the two investigate the mysterious disappearance of a fellow student, uncovering a dark side to their town that ultimately forces them into an impossible life-or-death decision that will mark them forever.” Nothing there should surprise fans.

The series is being written by Charlie Covell, who will also serve as executive producer and showrunner. For now, there’s still no word on dates.
