Nothing eclipses its strategy–RPG blend, and after almost two decades the series is finally sailing into naval warfare again: TaleWorlds Entertainment has confirmed the release date for War Sails, the new DLC for Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord.
Like its predecessor, Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord has carved out a niche as a hybrid of role-playing, adventure, and strategy, but that doesn’t mean fans are being left without fresh content. TaleWorlds Entertainment is building its most ambitious expansion to date and, although it slipped to year’s end, that delay is now settled: War Sails has a firm date.
According to the Turkish studio, the series is heading to the seas for the first time, bringing large-scale naval battles, new factions, and a raft of tactical options. This substantial gameplay expansion arrives on November 26 for consoles and PC.
This Is War Sails — the New Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord DLC
For newcomers, War Sails lets you command full Viking fleets along rivers, coastlines, and the open sea, clashing with rival armies in intense naval engagements. The studio says a custom battle mode is included, ideal for players looking to dominate the water with different strategies and ship loadouts.
In total, the DLC features 18 distinct ship types, all customizable and upgradable with options like siege engines, reinforced sails, and ramming prows. Dynamic weather and sea states will shape every encounter, forcing captains to adapt quickly. Tactical fleet management and tight coordination between vessels will be critical to victory.
One headline addition is a Viking-inspired faction called the Northern Kingdom. You’ll explore its frozen lands, trade, recruit warriors, or meet them head-on in fights for control of the fjords. As TaleWorlds puts it: “Set a course for the Northern Kingdom, home of the brave northerners.”
With this expansion, TaleWorlds pushes Bannerlord into new territory, shifting medieval warfare onto the sea. War Sails aims not just to broaden the game’s world but to elevate its strategic scope. On November 26, players will take up their swords again — on an entirely different battlefield.
