Go ahead and put the game back on your drive, because free visual and open world upgrades are rolling out in the coming months. Halk Hogan, the mind behind the acclaimed HD Reworked Project, has revealed a 2026 edition with notable improvements.
Nearly ten years after launch, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt keeps showing why it is still one of the most beloved RPGs around. This time, the spotlight is not on CD Projekt RED, but on a devoted Polish fan set on pushing the game to almost unbelievable heights. The renowned Halk Hogan, creator of the widely praised The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project NextGen Edition, has confirmed he is building a new version of his popular mod aimed at delivering the most striking rendition of Geralt’s adventure to date.
The HD Reworked Project has long ranked among the most ambitious graphical makeovers ever made for The Witcher 3. For anyone who missed it, the mod overhauled models, textures, and draw distance, turning CD Projekt RED’s open world into an experience that felt truly new-gen. Its success and reception were helped by the fact that it did not tank performance, and in 2023 Hogan pulled off a similar feat for Cyberpunk 2077, updating the same pillars in the studio’s latest open world.
The new graphics mod for The Witcher 3 is slated for 2026.
With CD Projekt’s next game still far off, many wondered what the modder had been up to. The answer is straightforward, refining what he already built. “I couldn’t resist continuing to work on something I love so much. The Witcher 3 is still alive and has an incredible community.” Halk Hogan announced his return with a refreshed HD Reworked Project, subtitled Next Gen Edition 2026.
The new edition promises higher resolution textures, full redesigns for wildlife and monsters, and a rendering system that adds greater three-dimensional depth to objects and surfaces. According to its creator, the result will be a more natural, visually coherent world where even the tiniest details, from the grit in a stone wall to the scales on a creature, come through with unprecedented clarity.
There is no exact date yet beyond the 2026 window, but Hogan says more details on the HD Reworked Project NextGen Edition will arrive in the coming months. In the meantime, anyone who has not tried the current release can grab it on Nexus Mods and see how one fan’s dedication continues to breathe life into one of the greatest games ever made.
