Ubisoft has dropped a free surprise for Assassin’s Creed Shadows players: update 1.1.6 adds an Attack on Titan-inspired mission and fresh activities, letting Naoe and Yasuke take on a new enemy faction in a crossover that folds one of anime’s biggest hits into the series’ vision of feudal Japan.
With Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Ubisoft has already taken hundreds of players on a tour of Japan, so it is hardly shocking that the latest collaboration is tied to a phenomenon born in the Land of the Rising Sun. What few expected, however, was a full-blown team-up with a global anime juggernaut like Attack on Titan. Through a free update, the publisher expands Naoe and Yasuke’s journey with a new mission built around dismantling a faction that threatens the entire region.
According to the patch notes for update 1.1.6, Assassin’s Creed Shadows now features a special Attack on Titan crossover that introduces a dangerous new group into this version of Japan. This organization is capable of wiping out everything in its path if it manages to trigger its hidden power. “With a person capable of transforming into a Titan kidnapped and turned into a weapon, a mysterious, power-hungry faction has infiltrated feudal Japan, setting its sights on total domination,” reads the mission description for this event. “When the rescue attempt goes wrong, and only one survivor is left alive, carrying a dark secret, he turns to Naoe and Yasuke for help to stop the group from unleashing Titan terror on Japan.”
To take on this mission, players first need to have unlocked Yasuke. The NPC who starts the quest can be found in the Yamashiro region, north of Hanazo Tower, with a dedicated icon marking the spot on the map. The event is time-limited, running from today, November 25, through December 22, giving players almost a month to clear the objective and claim the Attack on Titan-themed rewards. Those who complete the mission will unlock new customization options for their base, including banners and a statue, along with a crystal katana for Naoe. On top of that, the Assassin’s Creed Shadows in-game store is being updated with a dual cosmetic bundle featuring new outfits, additional weapons, a fresh mount and more.
What Else Is In Assassin’s Creed Shadows Update 1.1.6
Beyond the Attack on Titan crossover, update 1.1.6 also includes extra content that has nothing to do with Eren Jaeger’s story. Ubisoft has added a brand-new story mission, the third since the game launched in March, sending Naoe and Yasuke on a quirky detour to figure out how to open a mysterious door. The team describes this quest as a lighter, more humorous side story that offers a change of pace from the main campaign.
During this adventure, both protagonists pick up fresh abilities that carry over into the rest of the game. The shinobi gains her own spin on Yasuke’s signature kick, while the samurai learns a knockout technique that echoes Naoe’s approach to silently dropping enemies, further reinforcing the contrast between their fighting styles.
As a final touch, update 1.1.6 also tweaks Corrupted Castles. Ubisoft says the odds of running into the same castle layouts from previous seasons have been reduced, and new structures will now offer a more generous spread of Daisho for players to discover. As usual with a new patch, the developers have also addressed several bugs and issues, including problems that could block mission progression and other nagging glitches.
