Capcom Plans a Big Shake-Up – Devil May Cry and Mega Man Could Finally Stand Beside Resident Evil

Capcom’s top brass has decided it is time to stop relying almost exclusively on its usual heavy-hitters and start elevating long-running franchises like Devil May Cry and Mega Man. The publisher has set itself an aggressive financial roadmap and believes it can only reach those goals by pushing more of its major IPs up to the level of Monster Hunter and Resident Evil.

Capcom is currently in a strong, momentum-filled phase. The company is preparing tentpole releases such as Monster Hunter Wilds and the upcoming Resident Evil 9: Requiem, while still finding room for more experimental projects like Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess. At the same time, the Japanese publisher is fully aware that most of its resources are being poured into three flagship series, and leadership now wants to adjust course so that other well-known franchises can share the spotlight.

This new direction was outlined by Haruhiro Tsujimoto, Capcom president and COO, in a financial report describing the company’s growth strategy (via VGC). On paper, the plan has two major pillars: maintaining annual operating profit growth of 10% or more and, over the long term, reaching 100 million units of software sold each year. That kind of ambition is out of reach for many companies in the industry, and it demands a broader base than the same three blockbusters carrying the load.

As Tsujimoto explains, “Our efforts are focused on core IPs such as Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and Street Fighter, and on planning main installments, sequels, remakes, new IPs, and ports to the latest hardware. We release two to three major titles every year, but we recognize the need to expand our project pipeline going forward.” He continues: “Capcom owns a large number of globally popular brands, such as Mega Man, Devil May Cry, and Ace Attorney. Our goal is to grow our user base and improve our performance through new releases, remakes, and ports of these series to modern consoles. By strengthening each brand and cultivating a loyal fan base, we intend to turn them into core IPs as well.”

How Capcom Wants To Elevate Devil May Cry, Mega Man, Ace Attorney and More

The idea of building up other series beyond Monster Hunter, Resident Evil, and Street Fighter is not entirely new at Capcom. In practice, the company has been laying the groundwork for some time. According to the same report, “The people developing this content are our top-tier in-house creators. Over the past three years, we have prioritized strengthening our human capital, and as part of that effort we have been training and recruiting staff to expand our development structure.” The strategy is further backed by new offices under construction and land acquired near Capcom’s headquarters to support future expansion.

In the short term, however, the publisher will dominate headlines for a different reason. The Game Awards 2025 is just around the corner, the industry is gearing up for the show, and we already know that Resident Evil 9: Requiem will appear with a fresh trailer. All signs point to this presentation finally confirming that Leon S. Kennedy will be a playable character, something that surfaced earlier through a PS Store leak.
