MOVIE NEWS – “I want my money back!” — this was the reaction of some Marvel fans as they left screenings of Avatar: Fire and Ash after the first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday failed to appear before the new Avatar film. But does this really mean the teaser will be absent from theaters, or is the situation more complicated than it seems?
The release of Avatar: Fire and Ash is not only the most successful premiere of the Christmas movie season, but also one of the most anticipated films of the year. In recent days, several major productions – including Avengers: Doomsday – were expected to showcase trailers or footage ahead of James Cameron’s new science-fiction epic. Online discussions even suggested that as many as four different trailers could be ready for the next Avengers film, potentially rotated during theatrical screenings.
The key issue, however, is whether these previews will actually reach theaters worldwide. Many viewers felt that despite purchasing a ticket for the new Avatar movie, they did not receive the “Marvel experience” they were expecting. This frustration led to reactions such as “I want my money back!”, shared mostly in a half-ironic tone across social media.
The Countdown to Avengers 5 Is Already Underway
While the authenticity of leaked materials circulating online is often debated, there is widespread agreement that Marvel Studios will soon officially unveil the first trailer for its next major team-up film. The Russo brothers have already launched a countdown on Instagram aimed at next year, signaling that the promotional campaign is underway. At the same time, Disney’s highly secretive marketing strategy makes it difficult to guarantee that the teaser will automatically appear in theaters ahead of Avatar: Fire and Ash.
According to reports, Brazilian and French audiences who attended early screenings of Avatar: Fire and Ash before its official release did not encounter the Avengers: Doomsday teaser at all. One attendee jokingly remarked, “I want my money back!”, a comment reflecting disappointment rather than an actual demand for a refund.
It remains possible that a brief glimpse of the Avengers: Doomsday trailer will surface later this week or in the days ahead, but it may appear exclusively online or only in specific regions, such as theaters in the United States. In a campaign defined by secrecy, an online-first debut would not be surprising.
Without wanting to dampen excitement around the return of Thor, Doctor Strange, or even Doctor Doom, those heading to see Avatar: Fire and Ash may be better off enjoying James Cameron’s film for its own merits rather than waiting for a Marvel preview.
